Drugs and alcohol

We can help you to reduce the risk of harm that comes from chewing/smoking tobacco, or taking drugs and drinking alcohol.

What we can do for you

You might be someone who chews tobacco, khat or pan; or who smokes cigarettes or a hookah pipe; or uses drugs and drinks alcohol. These pastimes can cause harm to your health. Some are even illegal in this country.

You may not know what harms they can cause. We can give you help and advice to keep you safer.

Or, if you are feeling unwell and think that your smoking, drug use or drinking is possibly the cause, we can help.

Or, your doctor might have said that smoking, drug-use or drinking is harming your health. That means you do need to take it seriously. We can help and support you.

Here are some ways we can help you:

  • Give you information and advice – taking your cultural needs into account – to keep you safer from harm
  • If you think chewing, smoking, drugs or alcohol are doing you harm, we can get treatment for you:
    • We can speak to outside organisations – in confidence – who will come to our office to help to you in private
    • We will let them know about any cultural sensitivities
    • We can support you through the treatment
    • We can get help for you on your own, or in a group, if you prefer
    • If you want, we can support your family if they need it while you get treatment

We understand the cultural sensitivities

We understand how culturally sensitive this is. We understand its stigma affects whole families and can involve the community too.

Everything we do for you is in confidence. We will never tell anyone from your community, family or friends that you are talking to us about any of these issues.
