Health checks
Free general health checks, for people between the ages of 40 and 74.
Why you might need a health check
If you’re between the ages of 40 and 74, you become more at risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, diabetes, or dementia. So, it’s a good idea to get your health checked.
How we do a health check
One of our workers will ask you a series of questions to see if you need a full NHS health check or a mini one.
If you don't qualify for a full check, we can give you a health MoT, which is almost the same and only excludes a cholesterol check.
For a health check, we will ask you your age, ethnicity, gender, a little about your family medical history and whether you drink, smoke or take exercise.
We will check your BMI (Body Mass Index), blood pressure, and cholesterol if it's a full check.
Once we have done the check, we’ll talk to you about your results.
We’ll give you information and advice about ways you can improve your health. Or, we might refer you to another service, such as for pre-diabetes, dementia-awareness, weight management, stopping smoking, alcohol intervention, and physical activity.
The health check is sent to you GP practice/doctors. We might suggest during the health check, that you book an appointment with your doctor to discuss any health issue that has been raised during the health check.
